How To Get Rid of Wrinkles

Of all the signs of aging, wrinkles are perhaps one of the most evident, and consequently they are of the most concern to those who want to combat the effects of aging. There have been many methods introduced over the years for getting rid of wrinkles. Some have been based on real science, others have not. Today, there are viable options for getting rid of wrinkles that are safe and effective, and many are involved with everyday aspects of life, such as dietary intake. In fact, focusing efforts on the biological processes that occur in the production of skin cells and tissues by including certain nutrients in a diet may be the most effective method of getting rid of wrinkles by and large.

Getting Rid of Wrinkles with Nutrients

The most important aspect of healthy skin is cell regeneration. This process is ongoing at all times, as old skin cells are sloughed off to be replaced by newer, healthier cells. This takes place in every layer of skin, from the epidermis to the dermis. Amid this structure of skin cells are collagen and elastin cell tissues, which are responsible for maintaining skin tone and flexibility. All of these functions will lead to premature aging and wrinkles if not maintained, and nutrients play a major role in these processes. Antioxidants keep cells from being denigrated by free radicals so that cell reproduction can continue as it should. Antioxidants are present in many fruits and vegetables, in the form of vitamins such as A, C, and E that are especially good for getting rid of wrinkles.

Other Beneficial Aspects of Nutrients and Wrinkling

Peptides, phytochemicals, and polysaccharides are naturally-occurring elements that promote a healthy balance of collagen and elastin, which keeps the skin firm and flexible and decreases the occurrence of wrinkles. Hydroxy acids are also very beneficial for getting rid of wrinkles, since they promote exfoliation of dying skin cells and promote collagen growth that can be affected by exposure to the sun. All of these elements can be obtained from the diet, or can be taken in a supplement form or by injection into the skin by a qualified medical professional.

The Importance of Sunscreens

Sun damage is responsible for a great deal of the debilitation of skin cell structure, which leads directly to wrinkling. Ultraviolet rays can penetrate into the deepest layers of the skin, upsetting cell and tissue regeneration processes and causing dehydration of the skin. These effects of these factors can be reduced by using a sunscreen whenever possible. UV rays will still be present even on days when sunshine is not visible, so it is important to keep sunscreen on hand at all times. The SPF (sun protection factor) can vary depending on the length of time spent outdoors and the sensitivity of the skin to the effects of the sun, but a minimum of SPF 12 or 15 should be used in any condition to help prevent wrinkles.

Microdermabrasion

This is a process of physically removing (exfoliating) dead or dying skin cells. Exfoliation is a critical part of overall skin health, and a lack of sufficient exfoliation can lead to wrinkling in the long run. When old skin cells are not removed from the epidermis, they become impediments to the emergence of new skin cells, thus retarding the cell regeneration process altogether. The process of microdermabrasion is best performed using a cream to avoid irritation to the healthy skin layers.
