Dear Dr Neder:
Please, can you give me advice on how to go Dutch without
creating a negative impression? Some few guys even can manage
their ladies paying for them on a constant basis. How can I
do the same?

When you first start seeing a
woman, you're going to be expected to pay for everything
- even if she
says's differently! Sorry,
that's just the way it is. For instance, she may agree to pay
her share, but if you accept it, you're never going to see
her again. When a check comes and she offers to pay part, I
just say, "No, you get the next one." Hopefully,
she'll invite me out, or over to her place for dinner and whatever
else!
Later in the relationship, you should start to expect her
to pay - or to return in other ways. However, sex IS NOT one
of those ways! We have a name for women who provide sex for
money. Besides, she gets just as much out of that as you do.
What I'm talking about is for her to return in her own ways
(if not with money). For instance, perhaps she can help you
decorate your place, or help you pick out some new clothes.
Women have a great eye when it comes to these things, and frankly,
little touches - as long as their not too feminine - will go
a long way with OTHER women you meet too!
In the beginning, try to find
inexpensive dates that are fun and give you "face-time".
Avoid movies and concerts because you don't get a chance
to just talk
to her.
