Should
You Include Children on Your Date?
- by KissMeGoodnight.com
Those who have children from a previous or
even a current relationship understand the unique challenges
presented by having children in the picture. Even married couples
need date nights once in awhile and sometimes it is appropriate
to include the children on these dates. This can be one of
many ways to help the parent and child feel closer together
and to help the child and partner get to know each other better.
It is not necessary to include the children on all your dates
but once the relationship starts to become increasingly committed
its time to start including the children on a few dates. The
keys to successful dates that include children are choosing
a perfect location, planning activities that are fun for both
children and adults and choosing meal options that will appeal
to children.
The
location of a date that includes children is critical to
the success of the date. While some children may be mature
enough to handle an outing that requires them to sit quietly
such as the theater, most children would prefer an environment
where they can run around and have fun. Popular locations
for dates that include children are parks, zoos, amusement
parks,
video arcades and sporting events. These locations all have
aspects that the adults can enjoy while still including options
for the children to let loose and use up their excess energy.
For example at a zoo, the children will delight in hands on
exhibits that allow the child to be actively involved and the
adults will enjoy watching the children participate. Also the
adults may enjoy a chance to watch an educational demonstration
and the children will enjoy viewing the animals in the demonstration.
At a sporting event the children may enjoy cheering loudly
and partaking in events led by the team mascot while the parents
will be more interested in the outcome of the game. In either
of the locations mentioned as examples, there are activities
for both the adults and children to enjoy without isolating
them from each other.
The
activities chosen for a date that includes children can
also have a significant impact on the success of the date. For example, a date that combines child friendly activities
with a grown up appeal will be a fun event for all involved.
One way to do this is to allow the children and the adults
to each choose an activity for the date. This will ensure that
there is an enjoyable activity planned for each age group.
This may mean that you follow a trip to a history museum with
a trip to an ice cream parlor for banana splits but the new
twist of activities can offer a new experience to everyone.
The adults may have chosen to follow up the museum with a visit
to a coffee house but allowing the children to assist in the
planning put a unique spin on the date.
Location
and activities are critical to the success of a date that
includes children but meal options are equally important. A traditional date might include a meal at an elegant restaurant
but this may not be the best option for a date that includes
children. Many elegant restaurants may enforce a dress code
with is fine for an adult date but when the date includes children
this could present a problem. Children do not usually enjoy
dressing up and convincing them to wear an outfit suitable
for an upscale restaurant can be challenging and will put a
damper on the date for the children. Also, many expensive restaurants
do not serve foods that appeal to children. A child who complains
about the menu or refuses to eat can result in an uncomfortable
date for everyone. The child will be frustrated with the lack
of options while the adults will be annoyed that the child
is complaining. When children are involved, it’s best to choose
a restaurant with a casual atmosphere and a variety of menu
items. This will ensure that both the children and the adults
will enjoy their meal.
Dates that include children can be a little more difficult
to plan but they don’t have to be uncomfortable for either
the adults or the children. With a little careful preparation,
it is possible to plan a date that is enjoyable for adults
and children alike. Also, the date does not have to and should
not cater solely to the child. When you choose to include children
in your dating experience you should carefully plan a date
that makes both age groups feel comfortable.
