Your
Sexual Health: Snoring and Sleepless Nights
It is not a news flash that snoring is extremely
annoying, especially to the one who lies there awake wondering
if it will ever stop. Snoring disrupts sleep and when
you are not rested, the desire to have sex is next to zero. Worse still,
is that your chances of having sex diminish greatly when your
partner gets up in the middle of the night and moves to another
room in the house. They may even pick a room that is as far
as possible away from you.
The primary cause of snoring is from breathing through your
mouth instead of your nose. When you do, this air connects
with the back of your throat, which then sends out vibrations.
Those who have sleep apnea are often mouth breathers, but they
also have other medical issues contributing to snoring. When
a person with sleep apnea stops breathing during the night
they will snore and cough trying to get air.
There are studies after studies that mention people who snore
have worse sex lives than those who do not. Is it simply because
of the snoring or the sheer fatigue that comes from being kept
awake all night? Of course, if you are tired, then there is
a high probability that you are also bickering with one another
because little things will be irritating you. That will only
add to the desire not to be intimate.
What are some causes of snoring?
- Alcohol consumption
- Sleeping pills
- Overweight
- Colds
- Allergies
- Smoking
- Indulging in rich foods directly before sleeping
- Some of the ways to overcome snoring and jumpstart your sexual
health is:
If you suspect or your partner suspects that you may have
sleep apnea, make an appointment with your medical health care
professional. They will then make a referral for you to go
to a sleep clinic. The clinic will then perform a study on
you overnight and monitor your sleeping patterns. If you do
show the symptoms of sleep apnea they will recommend that you
start using a breathing machine. Now this may look a bit strange
at first but it is not uncomfortable to wear. It will also
allow you and your partner to get a night of rested sleep.
So, if you have sleep apnea, give your partner a few nights
of sleep and then you both will not bicker as much. After much
needed rest, be ready to enjoy some needed sexual fulfillment.
You may snore if you have seasonal allergies or are allergic
to items within your home. You may have tried over the counter
remedies. If these medications do not work, then it is time
to talk to you medical health care professional. Your doctor
can recommend stronger allergy medication or possibly a nasal
spray. Then you will be able to enjoy, as well as your partner,
a good nights rest.
They also make now over-the-counter “breathe right strips”
that help to open the nasal passage and decrease snoring.
There
are many options available and speaking to your health
care provider will help you get what you need to clear
up the
snoring. Not being able to breathe properly cannot only ruin
your sex life, but can also ruin your marriage. The marriage
or relationship does not end simply because of the snoring,
but it is like a domino effect. When you do not get enough
sleep over a period of days, weeks, or months, your life begins
to spin out of control. You are grumpy and tired. You do not
want to function at home or work. You argue and complain because
you are too tired to process the information of the day. If
your partner even mentioned sex, you would probably explode
at the thought. The world around you comes to a screeching
halt, because of snoring. Therefore, do some research and try
some snoring remedies and see if they work. Your partner will
support you when they see you trying. When you find the remedy
that works for you your entire life will tilt back into balance
and you will realize what you have been missing when you and
your partner connect on a sexual level again. # # # # #
