Choosing
Your Wedding Flowers
Having
flowers at a wedding is very traditional and beautiful. Deciding what kind and how many seems to be
the problem for most couples. There are so many possibilities
to choose from, it can seem endless. Where to put all the flowers
and how to arrange them is also not an easy task. The choice
that you choose will depend on where you are getting married,
how much room there is, how much they cost, and what your wedding
colors are. You might also want to make sure flowers are allowed
where you plan to wed, some places won’t allow them. You may
also consider silk flowers, not only are they spectacular they
last forever.
Where to get all these flowers might be the first thought
that comes to mind. This will depend on how many you want or
need and if you are planning on doing them yourself. You can
save quite a lot of money if you plan on doing your floral
arrangements by yourself. If you plan to have a large amount
of flowers, doing the arrangements yourself would probably
not be a good idea and could end up being very time consuming.
Start checking around early. Find out what kinds of flowers
are abundant for the time of year you are getting married.
Remember that out of season flowers will cost more. Take a
look at the types of arrangements there are to choose from.
Go with simple yet elegant, you don’t want to overdo it. Try
the farmer’s market or whole-foods grocer first. They will
have many flowers to choose from and you can get the contact
number of the vendor to make arrangements when it is closer
to time.
Ideas
to work with when choosing flowers is to decide what color
flowers you want. White is always a good choice, but
if you aren’t adding another color, make sure they are mixed
with greens to help them stand out. You can also tie them together
with ribbons that match your colors. If your wedding colors
are the same as the color of some flower types, you are in
luck. You can pick from those types of flowers and have several
pieces made. There are also silk flowers as another option.
You can have any type of flower in any color you want. This
might be a great option for those who don’t have the choice
of color other than white to match. Plus, these will make great
souvenirs after the wedding. You can also rearrange them and
use them in your home when you are done.
If you are having an outdoor
wedding, it might be more difficult
to arrange for flowers depending on the location. If you are
getting married in a park, you may only want to deal with ribbons
or bows that are easy to take down after the ceremony. You
can have flowered centerpieces at the reception instead. This
will allow for flowers to be a part of your wedding day, but
not interfere with any park regulations. In addition it can
save you money. Again, you could use silk flowers or even try
plants as a centerpiece. Plants are beautiful and many flower.
You can take them home and have them for a long time. You could
even allow your wedding guests to take the plants home afterwards.
If you are having you wedding at someone’s house, then you
have more flower decorating possibilities. You can put flower
arrangements up the driveway or walkway. They can line the
path to the wedding alter and even as a bridge above your head
as you say your vows.
When
planning an indoor wedding, flowers are more easily incorporated.
Make sure your venue will allow you to have them
and if they expect you to donate them after. Many churches
will ask that you donate the flowers to them after the ceremony.
Know what you are spending your money on and if you will have
to leave the flowers behind or not. Choose what arrangements
work with the type of location and space. If you are marrying
in a church, you might want to put small bouquets on each pew
and two larger pot arrangements at the entrance way and/or
at the alter. Maybe you would like to have a combination of
plants and flowers in your potted arrangements and just have
bows on the pews. The possibilities are endless, just use your
imagination and have fun.
