Why
is a Videographer
Important At Your Wedding?
Aside from some wonderful still photography,
video would have to be the best way to preserve the true spirit
and emotion of your wedding. With this being said, there
are a few points that should be addressed when picking a videographer. Here are a few to get you started:
You should always inform
them when you have a particular idea in mind and ask them
if these ideas are a possibility. Whenever
possible, try to view some of the past videos they have done.
This is to inspect the quality of their work. Remember this
day only comes once, it need to be a memorable one, not a video
disaster. It may be that they decide to use special effects
in the video that you may not want in yours. Never take them
by their word or by the name they carry to determine the quality
and workmanship they will produce.
On
to the ceremony - it may very well be the case that the church
you are going to wed in does not allow cameras video
or still to be used at or near the front sanctuary segment
of the church. However, perhaps the church will allow cameras
at the rear. You will need a game plan for this to be pulled
off smoothly. If you are marrying somewhere else, such as a
park, this will not be an issue. Depending on the amount of
cameras you want, as well as the coverage will pretty much
determine the fees for the ceremony. If the videographer has
certain styles or even packages where interviewing the guests
for brief comments on film, may or may not make some a little
uncomfortable and this should be taken into account.
You wish for this video to be a carbon
copy of that special
moment, not a fancy show where lights and perhaps even silly
things have been incorporated such as smoke and lasers. Please
pay particular attention on the demo videos you watch to ensure
that this videographer takes pride in their work. This is to
ensure the ceremony to be magical, not a mishap. Save the special
show of old Uncle Bob doing the Macarena where it belongs,
on the dance floor at the reception. If the videographer is
a professional, it will show in their work. You will see many
things on that video that you will not remember, as you were
center stage, and concentrated on other issues that kept you
from seeing the ceremony as a spectator. The importance of
being comfortable with the videographer that you are going
to employ on this special day goes without saying.
The professional will have the task of capturing
everything on video and in a fashion that you desire. However, it is not
out of the question to take sound advice from the professional
if they see a problem in your vision or master plan. They are,
after all, the professionals. If they see a problem in what
you have asked, the right thing to do would be to inform you
of why it might not be a good idea. They are not intentionally
trying to hurt your feelings, nor do they want to crush a dream.
Their job as a hired professional videographer is to do what
they do best by cleanly capturing the moment on video for you
to cherish for a lifetime.
Taking into account the venue you have chosen may or may not
pay part in how difficult it will be to film. Lighting, and
perhaps even weather conditions if you are doing it outside,
could wreak havoc on video. If the videographer tries to make
a suggestion, or offers a different approach on a segment of
the ceremony or reception, it would not hurt to hear them out.
They undoubtedly have been doing this for some time and know
what exactly will work and what will not. Second-guessing the
professional is in a sense UN-professional, as well. Not unlike
every other aspect of that special day, it does not hurt to
do your homework so that you can get the best for your dollar
and it will be money well spent. Lights, Camera, Action! Click
